Boxer Presents Award To Sherman Oaks Community Charter
"I am pleased to present my Excellence in Education Award to Sherman Oaks Community Charter for its wonderful afterschool program," Senator Boxer stated. "Thanks to this program, students receive the guidance, assistance, and nurturing they need to be safe and excel in their studies."
Sherman Oaks Community Charter's afterschool program serves 100 students ranging from kindergarten to sixth grade. The program offers tutoring, arts-and-crafts, music, and other recreational activities.
"We thank Senator Boxer for this special award," added Sherman Oaks Community Charter Principal Peggy Bryan. "This afterschool program extends our school curriculum to include both arts activities and academic enrichment programs that propel our students to their highest potential."
Senator Boxer has been the U.S. Senate leader on afterschool education, authoring the bill that provided federal funding for afterschool programs. Boxer established her Excellence in Education Award to recognize teachers, parents, businesses and organizations that are working to make positive changes in education.
