Senator Boxer Appoints Attorney Jack W. Lee to Parsky Commission

Washington , DC – U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) today announced her appointment of attorney Jack W. Lee of San Francisco to the Parsky Commission Northern District Panel. Mr. Lee will replace Michael Ohleyer, who is stepping down after nearly seven years serving on the bipartisan Commission.

Senator Boxer said,“I am very pleased that Jack has agreed to take on this important responsibility of helping select highly-qualified, moderate judicial candidates for the federal bench. I am confident that Jack will bring the experience of his long and diverse career to the process. I also want to thank Michael Ohleyer for his fine service on the Parsky Commission these past several years.”

Mr. Lee is a partner with the San Francisco law firm Minami Tamaki LLP, where he specializes in employment, consumer fraud and civil rights law. Prior to that, Mr. Lee worked on complex class action civil rights cases with the Oakland Firm of Saperstein & Seligman. Early in his career, Mr. Lee served as an attorney for the Asian Law Caucus, a private non-profit civil rights organization; the San Francisco Public Defenders Office; and, Regional Attorney for the Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights, where he worked on discrimination and desegregation issues in the school system.

The Parsky Commission was established in 2001 after Senators Boxer and Dianne Feinstein reached an agreement with the White House to create a commission responsible for recommending nominations to fill vacancies in the four Federal district courts in California.

The Parsky Commission is comprised of four six-member subcommittees – one for each judicial district in the state. Each subcommittee has one member selected by Senator Boxer, one selected by Senator Feinstein and one jointly by both Senators. The other three members are named by Gerald Parsky, President Bush’s State Chair for judicial appointments.
