Senate Committee Approves Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Bill With Boxer Requests

Includes More Than $21 Million for California Requested by Boxer

Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee today approved the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Bill, which includes more than $21 million requested by U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) for key investments throughout California.

Senator Boxer said, “The brave men and women of our armed forces serve us every day. These critical infrastructure investments, including funding for a new fire station for Edwards Air Force Base, will help them do their jobs safely and efficiently.”

This bill now goes to the full Senate for consideration.

These investments include:

Flightline Fire Station
Recipient: Air Force
Location: Edwards Air Force Base, California
Amount: $15,500,000

This project will replace the current fire station, which is more than 50 years old and no longer able to fully support firefighting functions. Today’s modern firefighting vehicles are much larger than those the current structure was designed to house and do not fit safely in the existing vehicle parking bays. This delays emergency response time and increases the risk of loss of life or damage to aircraft housed at the Air Force Base.

Renewable Photovoltaic Solar Power
Recipient: Army National Guard, California
Location: Los Alamitos, Banning, Mather and Ventura
Amount: $5,900,000

This project will help the California National Guard decrease carbon pollution while reducing operating costs. This project will install solar panels over existing, paved parking lots at four different facilities.
