(NEW) I know that you were heavily involved in the effort to get Fort Ord preserved and I want to thank you and congratulate you on the fulfillment of this effort. As a life time resident of the Monterey Bay Area, this is a huge source of pride, akin to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Fishermans Wharf. You just added a major jewel to the crown of this area. With much appreciation,
Rick, Santa Cruz
I am delighted to hear about the National Monument designation and the nearly 15,000 acres at Fort Ord. I spent over 4 years there in the mid-to-late 1970's and those times remain in memory as some of the best of my life. Thank you for the work you put in to accomplish this.
Helene, Bonsall
Congratulations on getting Fort Ord listed as a national monument. This veteran appreciates it.

Thank you for preserving some of the most wonderful parts of the California coast. What a win: 15,000 acres. Bravo!!
Susan, Sausalito
I have fond memories of the Fort. My older brother seved out his basic training with the Army at Fort Ord. As a little boy, I got to see a little of the Army life. I look forward to walking in and around that area of California and enjoying the wonderful coast line and fresh air that part of California has to offer.

No! though I served there, i see no reason to glorify war. Beside the civil war, I find it ludicrous to believe our military actually has deployed to protect our rights. More likely, our military fights to stimulate industries.

How can Obama designate that land when he probably does not know how obscure decent shopping facilites are in this area. And, why do they need all of the land? it is very nice that we have a place to ride our horses, if you have one, but no place to shop for groceries. I know, that since I am a conservative, you do not care about my opinion.
Ilene, Salinas
preserving Ft ord was a wonderful idea. thank you and President Obama

The recent 15,000 acre National Monument designation in California is welcome news indeed! It's great to hear about progress on the environmental front. Thank you for all your hard work.

Thank you for your support of protection for vital open space in California as exemplified by your support for the designation of Fort Ord NM. I hope enough operating funds will be appropriated to make the designation more than a paper gesture.
