Senator Boxer: Preserving the Legacy of Cesar Chavez
Friday, April 29, 2011
Dear Friend:
In 2008, Congress passed legislation directing the National Park Service (NPS) to conduct a “special resource study” of sites that are significant to the life and legacy of Cesar Chavez and the farm labor movement in the western United States. As a co-sponsor of that legislation, I want to bring you up to date on this important initiative.
Following two years of research, the NPS has published a preliminary list of significant sites. The Park Service is now evaluating ways to preserve these sites, allow public visitation where appropriate, and use the sites to share the history of Cesar Chavez and the farm labor movement.
To read more about the Cesar Chavez Special Resource Study and find out how you can participate in this historic effort, please go to http://www.nps.gov/pwro/chavez
Sincerely,
U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer
