Senator Boxer: Bringing Our Troops Home
Thursday, June 23, 2011
Dear Friend:
Last night President Obama addressed the nation about his plan to withdraw 10,000 American troops from Afghanistan by the end of this year, and a total of 33,000 by next summer.
I am glad this war is ending, but it’s ending at far too slow a pace. We need a swifter turnover of responsibility to the nearly 300,000 Afghan forces we have trained, which would allow our brave military men and women to come home sooner.
I recently gave a speech in San Francisco calling for a new strategy in Afghanistan focused on counterterrorism, protection of coalition personnel, and the continued training of Afghan forces. To read the speech, please click here.
Sincerely,
U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer
