Senator Boxer: Fighting to Create Jobs
Tuesday, June 28, 2011
Senate Republicans recently blocked my bipartisan bill reauthorizing the Economic Development Administration (EDA) that would have created jobs and invested in the infrastructure of economically distressed communities throughout America.
For the past four decades, EDA has had a successful track record of creating employment opportunities, maintaining existing jobs, and driving local economic growth. According to EDA, each dollar of public investment has historically attracted nearly seven dollars in private sector investment to create jobs and revitalize communities.
At a time when Americans are concerned about keeping their jobs and making ends meet, we need to pass S. 782 and other jobs bills that will create economic opportunities in areas of our country that are hurting the most.
