Senator Boxer: Honoring Sally Ride
Friday, August 3, 2012
Dear Friend:
Last night the Senate came together to honor the amazing life and legacy of pioneering Astronaut Dr. Sally Ride – the first U.S. woman to fly in space – who passed away in San Diego on July 23rd at the age of 61.
We passed a bipartisan resolution that I introduced with Senator Dianne Feinstein and other colleagues that celebrates Dr. Ride’s achievements as a trailblazing woman in the U.S. space program who inspired millions – especially young women and girls – to reach for the stars.
After her illustrious career as an astronaut, she became a professor, an author and a leader in science education, encouraging the next generation to discover the wonders of science.
Sally Ride had a profound impact on so many people in America and around the world, and she will deeply missed. To read more about her career and accomplishments, please click here and here.
Sincerely,
U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer
