Senator Boxer: Improving 2-1-1 Services in California
Wednesday, August 18, 2010
The Senate Appropriations Committee recently approved my request to expand the 2-1-1 system throughout California.
Today, 34 of California’s 58 counties offer 2-1-1 telephone services connecting residents to an array of social services and information. Calls are answered by live trained specialists who connect callers to resources ranging from childcare and financial counseling centers to mental health programs and domestic violence shelters. In times of emergency or natural disaster, 2-1-1 also provides crucial assistance such as evacuation information, shelter locations, and opportunities for those seeking to donate or volunteer.
2-1-1 is a convenient, efficient, and cost-effective way to give Californians timely access to vital information. You can count on me to make sure this important provision becomes law and to continue improving 2-1-1 services in California and across the nation.
U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer
