As a member of the Senate Women’s Caucus on Burma, I recently joined in sending a letter to Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of the United Nations, calling on him to use his authority to exert more international political pressure on the despotic military junta in Burma.  In our letter, we underscored the dire human rights situation in Burma and the detention of political prisoners, including the prolonged house arrest of Aung San Suu Kyi, the country’s democratically elected leader.
