The Riverside County Department of Public Health has been awarded federal funds to help improve the health outcomes for children. These funds come from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (H.R.1), or “stimulus bill,” and are intended to be used to address household triggers of asthma in children.
This funding will help to boost a successful program by Riverside County’s Department of Public Health that clears homes of health hazards known to trigger asthma in children such as mold, dust, and pests such as rodents and insects. This funding of $875,000 will allow the program to operate through June 2011 and will improve the health of children, reduce medical care costs, and provide jobs for the people hired to perform the work.
Another important part of this program provides training and education for families with children who suffer from asthma attacks, providing information about how to keep households free of the triggers that cause attacks.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was intended to create local jobs and provide local communities with long-term benefits. This program does both and provides the long-term benefit of reduced medical costs and more productive lives for children.
Sincerely,
